George and Linda King
Hilda's wedding in 1947
George, son of George William and Esther King, was born 1892 in the district of Pencoyd (Ross). Whilst George William and remaining family stayed in or close to Pencoyd, George arrived at Abergavenny most likely seeking work.
Linda May, daughter of William Joseph and Charlotte Pettey, was born in 1893 in the town of Abergavenny. Her mother had two sons Evan Thomas and Arthur Edwards from a previous marriage. 1901 census showing both parents had not survived and Linda along with her older sister Ada resided with now married Evan, spouse Evelyn their child Arthur F and Arthur.
George and Linda married in Abergavenny in 1914, whilst there Linda Mary their first child was born in 1915. George William was the next born in 1917 in Birmingham where family recollections believe George had a job waiting for him. By at least 1920 they had settled in Weston Place Guilford Street, increasing family by the birth of Hilda in 1921 and some 13 years later by Robert who only survived 3 years.
Son George William was the first to be married in 1941 followed by Hilda May in 1947, the demise of Linda’s husband George was in 1953. Linda May and daughter Linda Mary remained in Guilford Street until late 1960’s moving firstly to a tower block flat in Fellows House off New John Street and from there to a house in Dunsfold Croft, Aston, were first Linda May passed away in 1982 followed by Linda Mary some 10 years later.
